LiveWisely 2020

What is LiveWisely 2020?

LiveWisely 2020 is a workshop that draws its roots from the 1979 Surgeon General's Report, Healthy People, and Healthy People 2000 that established a set of National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Objectives. Both reports served as the basis for the development of the Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS) Healthy People 2010 plan. Similar to these plans, LiveWisely 2020 was developed and built based on scientific lifestyle and behavioral epidemiology and was designed to change lifestyle and behavioral patterns over time. 

The overarching goal is to increase the quality and years of healthy life and is a call to action for individuals to achieve a better health status by the year 2020.

This workshop focuses on helping individuals identify and rectify lifestyle challenges and bad behavioral patterns that influence their health. They will:

  • Investigate these patterns and create a wellness plan that will help them affect change.
  • Participate in a wellness coaching workshop - that will help them fortify their commitment to themselves.
  • Participate in a fitness workshop that will help them improve their strength, cardiovascular fitness and activities of daily living.
  • Participate in a nutritional assessment workshop that will help them understand the effects of their eating habits on their overall health.

What are it's goals and Objectives?

he goals and objectives of the LiveWisely 2020 workshop are multifaceted. Together we will investigate the patterns and factors that influence the incidence, proliferation, and control of unhealthy behaviors. In its entirety the workshop will aim to increase clients’ understanding of how lifestyle relates to health.

Additionally clients will:

  • Increase their understanding of how their lifestyle directly relates to their health.
  • Investigate implications of their behavioral and lifestyle patterns relative to stress, work, nutrition, activities of daily living, family and their environment.
  • Develop techniques to alter habitual behaviors that are detrimental to their health.
  • Increase their personal power through a plan of action that they will create for themselves.

Who will benefit from this workshop?

Anyone can benefit from this workshop. Individuals will be encouraged to actively participate and integrate what they’ve learned from the LiveWisely 2020 workshop into their lives. From this workshop they will develop a baseline for their current health status, set goals for improvement and encouraged to take actions to improve that baseline. By creating a long term plan of action from a list of objectives, individuals will build an agenda for personal health improvements. Results will be monitored over time. 

Through this workshop individuals will learn the following:

  • The essential rules for living a healthy lifestyle.
  • The importance of knowing and quantifying their health status.
  • How to understand and navigating the behavior change process.
  • The long term effects of smoking on their health.
  • The importance of paying attention to what they eat.
  • Why exercise is important to a healthy lifestyle.
  • Why a malicious lifestyle is the cause of bad health and how changing that lifestyle can prevent disease and illness.
  • How to increase their understanding of personal wellness and learn techniques for being more active, which will greatly improve their physical and mental health.
